Indirect prompt injection through retrieved content
On This Lesson 4 topics
This lesson is planned. The outline below lists the topics it will cover. The full lesson has not been published yet.
In this lesson
understand and mitigate attacks hidden in data the assistant reads.
Planned topics
- Direct injection comes from the user. Indirect injection comes from a help article, review, email, or web page that gets retrieved.
- Mitigations: track content provenance, delimit and label data as untrusted, keep instructions separate from data, restrict tools while untrusted content is in context, check outputs.
- Content from your own index is not automatically trusted: customers write reviews, staff paste text.
- No single filter is enough; combine layers.
