On This Lesson 3 topics

This lesson is planned. The outline below lists the topics it will cover. The full lesson has not been published yet.

In this lesson

show how cost and cost per order behave under peak and growth, preparing the sensitivity part of the lab.

Draft outline details

Step by step

  1. Define scenarios: normal month, peak month (autoscaled), and three times current volume.
  2. Re-run the model with each scenario's drivers.
  3. Identify which lines scale linearly (data transfer, requests) and which step (database tier, cache nodes).
  4. Planned mistake: assuming costs scale linearly and extrapolating from the normal month. Fix: model the database step and pre-scaling for peak.
  5. Compute cost per order in each scenario and compare with the margin.
  6. Propose controls: peak-season budget, rightsizing after peak, commitments for the base load only.

Practice

Apply this lesson with the module's lab, exercises and quiz.
