Multi-AZ design

  • Lesson 2 of 7

On This Lesson 4 topics

This lesson is planned. The outline below lists the topics it will cover. The full lesson has not been published yet.

In this lesson

design for zone failure inside a region.

Planned topics

  • Run application instances in at least two or three zones behind a load balancer with health checks.
  • Make services stateless so any instance can serve any request.
  • Use managed data services with multi-AZ standby; state lives there.
  • Size so that losing one zone still leaves enough capacity.
  • Remove single points of failure: one NAT, one queue consumer, one VPN tunnel.

Demonstration

a diagram: three zones, each with application instances and data nodes, load balancer spanning them; one zone shaded as failed.

Check your understanding
