ARC-046-LAB1 · Securing the assistant
Outcomes: 1–4 · Time: ~3.5 h
- Classify the data in prompts, retrieved content, tool results, outputs, and logs for the Larkspur assistant and set a rule per class.
- Write a provider-terms checklist (region, retention, training use, sub-processors, deletion, audit, incident notice, exit) and mark what must be configured or contracted.
- Design guardrails: input and output filtering, access-controlled retrieval, tool gateway with allowlist and approval, rate limits.
- Design audit logging and the deletion path for conversation logs, vector index, caches, and evaluation data.
- Produce a threat model with controls and residual risks, and present it to a role-played security and privacy officer.
Acceptance: reviewed by a role-played security and privacy officer; no payment card data can reach the model.

- EX01 Product descriptions: public, allowed. Order status: internal, allowed with minimized fields. Address: personal, only if needed and masked or pseudonymized. Card number: restricted, never reaches the model; masked at input and excluded from retrieval and logs. Discount policy: internal or confidential, allowed only for staff users with entitlements.
- EX02 Region and residency, retention and whether zero retention is available, training use (must be off for company data), sub-processors, deletion on request, incident notice, audit rights, exit and data return; configure options and record them in the contract and DPA; legal and privacy review; re-review on term changes.
- EX03 Review text treated as untrusted data in retrieved content, not instructions; tool calls validated against an allowlist with scopes; refunds require approval and verification of the actual customer; output filter; audit log shows the attempt.
- EX04 Separate read and write tools; refund tool scoped to the signed-in customer's own orders; schema validation; a threshold above which a human approves; rate limits; every call logged with who approved.
- EX05 Conversation logs, vector index entries derived from the customer's records, caches, evaluation datasets, backups (per retention rules), and provider-side stored data; deletion jobs keyed by customer id and a verification log or report.
